A Bit About Me Now

I work for a company that deals in medical equipment . As you already know, its a German company. And this is my 4th industry jump. I have done retail, law, publishing and hospitals.  

Its been a month since I started my new job and I am as comfortable in it as a vegan in a fish market.  I have been duped into thinking that figures are a small part of my job. Silly me. Somebody forgot to tell me that I will be doing valuations on a daily basis.  So far I have been able to decipher Balance Sheets, Profit and Loss statements and Cashflows. ROIs and NPVs are distant relatives.  When I put my calculator to my ear, I can almost hear the echos of Compound Annual Growth Rates. 

And this is a girl who decided to study law as oppose to economics because she still counted with her toes. Looks like Economics now has found me.

Caught this Gap ad in a magazine. That's Jason Bateman and his cupcake of a daughter Francesca. I want one just like her! I'd even take the hat.

Look! We are doing something! Look!

One thing about small nation politics is that when it comes to international matters it is terribly important to us to be perceived as if we are saviours, the last bastion of hope. Like a kid that goes "look at me, mommy", we have a tendency to create much fuss about the very little we do. 

While we condemn the humanitarian disaster that is unfolding in Gaza, our papers are filled with one politician after another renouncing and threatening and holding press conferences on how we are 'GOING to petition a special session of the UN general assembly.  Malaysian Red Crescent Society is GOING to send a medical team of a total of THREE doctors. In the coming OIC meeting, Malaysia WILL propose the formation " of a group to channel Palestinian views and to oversee peacekeeping efforts in the region" (like how obviously vague can you be.) 

Note that its always the proposals and plans that get wide newspaper coverage. Just send them already and get the job done. You can blow your trumpet later of how magnificent Malaysia is and pat out backs till we suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. But engage already and let the deeds, and fruits of the efforts do the talking.  

Malaysian Muslim eateries plan boycott of American goods

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2,000 Muslim restaurants in Malaysia will remove Coca-Cola from their menus as part of a boycott of American products in protest against Israel's bombardment of Gaza, officials said Wednesday.

American companies are being targeted because of the US Government's support of Israel, which is carrying out a military offensive on Gaza that is says is aimed at stopping rocket attacks from the Hamas-controlled territory.

The nationwide boycott will be launched Friday by several Muslim groups after they seek God's blessings at Friday prayers, said Ma'mor Osman, secretary-general of the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association which is leading the campaign.

In addition to Coca-Cola, he said they have identified some 100 other products ranging from food to beauty and clothing such as Starbucks, Colgate, McDonald's and Maybelline.

Since the Israeli offensive began, nearly 600 Palestinians, about half of them civilians, have been killed and at least 2,500 people injured, according to UN and Palestinian officials. Eleven Israelis have also been killed.

Muslims in Malaysia and worldwide have held demonstrations against the Israeli action but Ma'mor said such protests are futile.

"A boycott is the best way for us to protest Zionist cruelty against the Palestinian people as consumers can weaken the economy of countries like Israel and its ally, the United States," he said.

"We urge everybody who loves peace and is against war to support our campaign. We must send a clear signal to Israel to stop the assaults in Gaza," he said.

Some 2,600 restaurants under the Association of Muslim Restaurant Operators will stop selling Coca-Cola from Friday, he added.

The move came after former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, a strident critic of Israel, last week urged consumers and governments to boycott American products and the US dollar.

Israel sent troops and tanks into Hamas-controlled Gaza on Saturday after a weeklong aerial bombardment, sparking outrage among Muslims worldwide.

Malaysia's government, which has no diplomatic ties with Israel, has denounced Israel's ground offensive as "an act of total war" which cannot be tolerated.

The United States has also been criticized for blocking approval of a UN Security Council statement calling for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. -- AP

Brilliant move! So all you Malaysians working at Starbucks outlets, P&G, F&N-Coca cola factories and McD restaurants, I hope you people have other ways to feed your families cause a prolonged boycott is gonna render you out of work very soon. Those working with American insurance companies, electronic giants and pharmaceuticals - time may be a ticking guys. Good thing Mahathir is not dependent on the Americans for a job or a pacemaker. 

Thank God I work for Germans.

Disaster is Chris Cornell working together with Timbaland. As a true blue fan of Audioslave and Soundgarden, I am trying very much to be appreciative of this new and different sound of his.

Nope. Can't do it. The song sucks. It not Chris Cornell anymore. Its all Timbaland.

Guess What I Got In My Freezer

Its not just simply Ben & Jerry's. Its Chubby Hubby (no, it’s not your first thot, it’s a flavour) that had me hitting every 7-11 in the entire PJ in vain yonks ago.  Chubby Hubby is happiness in a 1 pint tub.

Forget the sophistication of liquid gold, this is warm your cockles-snuggle in bed - childhood exuberance - forget about sharing - comfortable pajama wearing - favourite sitcom accompanying - good old fashion fun. 

Chubby Hubby has its own Wikipedia listing by the way. 

Quoting Wiki: The ice cream flavor consists of pretzel nuggets, which are covered in fudge and filled with peanut butter, in a vanilla malt ice cream base, which is itself swirled with fudge and peanut butter throughout.

Chubby Hubby was amongst the first few flavours introduced in Malaysia some, oh 8 years ago. It shared freezer space with Chunky Monkey, Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Oh, and Vanilla (like why bother?). Naturally Chubby Hubby was the most elusive and for a time, it completely disappeared. As Ben & Jerry's became more accessible at Cold Storage and Jusco stores, Chubby Hubby never made a comeback.
